Joana Saahirah is a world renowned dancer, teacher and choreographer, specializing in Egyptian oriental and folkloric dances, actress and author of the book “The Secrets of Egypt – Dance, Life & Beyond," a pioneer book on its 2nd edition.
She is one of the most well-known, respected and original oriental dancers in the international scene.
After almost a decade of life and career in Egypt with her own orchestra – rescuing the origins and essence of Egyptian oriental and folkloric dance -, Joana Saahirah has created a style (of teaching, choreographing and performing) that unites EAST and WEST; the best of Egypt and the best of western open and free mind; technique and expression; healing and art; the reconnection of MIND, the HEART, the BODY and the SOUL.

The Secrets of Egyptian Dance
Based on Joana Saahirah´s book "The Secrets of Egypt - Dance, Life & Beyond." Introduction to The Magic Of Egyptian Dance beyond the steps, the choreographies and exoticism. What lies beneath, what makes it The Language of the Soul. A pioneer course that gathers the SECRETS of Egyptian Dance, what makes it a magical, genuine art form and a unique tool of self-discovery and well-being.
When Joana Saahirah started travelling the world, to teach, perform and lecture, after 8 years living inside her Egyptian cocoon, she found the essence of Egyptian Dance was nowhere to be seen; Choreographies? CHECK! Competitions? CHECK! Fancy belly tricks? CHECK. The core, soul and purpose of Egyptian Oriental Dance? Nowhere to be found. The course (& the book) were born from this discovery. We´ll explore a "Majancé (entrance on stage) and its various changes, music/dance styles, moods, feelings, rhythms and melodies as an exercise to work some of the EGYPTIAN DANCE SECRETS Joana learned during her career in Egypt. Concepts like The SACRED WOUND, INVISIBLE DANCE or the RIGHT to MADNESS - among others - will open doors that you never imagined existed. Technique & short choreography.
Om Kolthoum: Dancing the Voice of the Orient - The Art of Tarab
Oum Kolthoum was, and still is, the Voice of the Orient, and her music represents the highest point of artistic expression in Egypt. Learning how to listen and interpret Om Kolthoum is a master degree in Oriental Dance. Concepts like TARAB, orchestration, interpretation, technique and personal expression within the music will be at the heart of this workshop that will make you fall in love - forever - with the true beauty of the Egyptian Classical repertoire.Technique and illustrative short choreography.
Extraordinaire with Mellaya
The Mediterranean Mermaid is back! - The character of the "bint il balad" (daughter of Egypt) at her best! Dance from Alexandria with "mellaya" (traditional garment women used to wear in public in the big cities like Cairo and Alexandria) - cocky and coquette, feminine, provocative, funny, light and filled with daring sensuality. How to use the "mellaya" creatively, and how to rediscover your body and its sensations from the perspective of an Egyptian woman mind. Expect the unexpected! Technique & choreography. *Please bring a mellaya or heavy veil.
