1st generation Afro-Cuban American Heidi’s lifelong obsession with movement began while watching movie musicals and attending the ballet in her hometown, Miami, FL. She started her formal dance training with Cuban ballerina Elena del Cueto and hasn't stopped moving since then. Deeply exploring the wonderful worlds of ballet, jazz, modern, multiple Cuban dance traditions, tap, and Transcultural Fusion along the way. The latter came into her life when a friend invited her to a "belly dance" show in 2006 which changed her dance life by challenging both her body and positionality beyond her wildest expectations. A self proclaimed dance geek and avid dancemaker she teaches multiple genres of dance weekly to students ranging in age from young to the young at heart and works as a freelance choreographer, coach and consultant. She believes that dance is for all bodies and works daily to eliminate her implicit biases and be an accomplice for inclusivity, accessibility and diversity. As a dance educator she seeks to instill an understanding of the history, nuances and cultural context of the different dance styles in her repertoire and inspire her students to love the work, not just the exhilaration sparked by performance. She is the artistic director of the Ouroboros Dance Project which specializes in synchronized group improv and the choreography troupe, Meraki Dance Ensemble.
